About Dr. Yu

Dr. Shui-Qing (Fisher) Yu received his B.S. and M.S. in Electronics from Peking University in 1997 and 2000, respectively, and his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University (ASU) in 2005.  He spent one year as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in ASU MBE Optoelectronic Group and then joined the Center for Nanophotonics of Arizona Institute of Nano-Electronics in ASU as an Assistant Research Professor.  Dr. Yu joined the Electrical Engineering department as an assistant professor in fall 2008.  His areas of research interest are semiconductor optoelectronic device fabrication and characterization, applied nano & biophotonics, and nanopackaging.

GREEN Research

Dr. Fisher's GREEN research in nanofabrication focuses on design and fabrication of various nanoplasmonic structures and nanoelectrodes for nanodevices by using the JEOL JBX-550FS E-Beam Lithography system. This also includes optical characterization of these structures for the potential applications in solar cells. His research in silicon germanium tin (SiGeSn) focuses on the deposition of high-quality epitaxial Si, SiGen, GeGn, SiGeSn, and SiC films on large-area substrates at low temperature for fabrication of various optoelectronic devices including photodetectors, lasers, and solar cells. SiGeSn proviced the only currently known way to viably engineer 1.0 eV bandgap direct bandgap semiconductors for an ideal three-junction high-efficiency solar cell, a holy grail for high-efficieny advanced multijunction solar cells.
